Development of the 6th-generation Mustang was a priority even as Ford was hemorrhaging cash and struggling to survive he global recession that began in 2008. This movie has an amazing collection of footage from through the life of the vehicle, as well as compelling and even entertaining video from inside the design center, factory, and board room.

“We still have leaks and wind noise around the A-pillar,” shares one engineer in a meeting. “So you’re saying that’s the best pillar we’ve ever designed,” quipped another.

There are long conversations with Dave Pericak, Mustang Chief Engineer, as well as Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s current chief product development & purchasing officer, that reveal the passion that went into every nut, bolt, computer, and engine component. You may remember Tang – he designed the groundbreaking 5th generation that launched in 2005.

Pericak shares his immense passion for both the vehicle and his team, quoted in IMDB. “There’s a lot of smart people… a lot of smart people… held back by their own fears or inhibitions. And if you allow them to go out on the edge, hang out a little bit, knowing that no matter what happens… you will catch them. They will go out on the thinnest branches… even though they think that thing’s gonna crack… they’ll go… because they know you’re gonna be there for them.
“And when they start doing that… when more and more people start doing that… the power that you unleash is unbelievable,” he continued. “Because when everyone stays reserved and [thinks] ‘Well, I’m not gonna do that because I might fail’ or ‘I might get hurt’… or whatever, then the whole team doesn’t progress as far forward as they could. But when they’re out there slaying dragons… because they know that if the dragon gets a little unruly… that you’re gonna come in and finish him off… they’ll slay dragons all day long for you, man. Right?”
