Using the 3.0L EcoBoost® engine, the Ford Explorer ST and the Ford Explorer Platinum can each tow up to 5,600 lbs. We encourage all adventurers to try out the Ford Explorer Timberline, which features a 2.3L EcoBoost® engine, off-road capabilities and upgrades, and a towing capacity of 5,300 lbs. These are the highest towing capacities that Ford Explorers are able to handle under the gas configuration. As a hybrid, the SUV is almost as strong.
